Agricultural team strengthens international ties
Exploring dairy innovation during a collaborative visit to China’s Bright Farm, Shanghai office, and Irish Consulate
In September, a delegation of 38 members from the Tirlán Agricultural team, led by John Hennigan, embarked on a meaningful visit to China. Coordinated by the Agricultural Counsellor at the Irish Embassy, the trip aimed to deepen understanding of China’s dairy industry, strengthen international relationships and explore opportunities for collaboration. The itinerary included a tour of Bright Farm in Shanghai, a visit to the Tirlán China office and a meeting at the Consulate General of Ireland.
Bright Farm Visit – September 11th
The delegation began their journey with a visit to Bright Farm, located in Jinshan, Shanghai. As one of China’s leading raw milk providers, Bright Farm supplies approximately 27,000 tons of high-quality milk annually to the Shanghai region. The farm is home to nearly 5,000 cows and operates an advanced free-range feeding system supported by refined management practices.
During the tour, the group observed cutting-edge milking technology, including 80 high-efficiency rotary milking stations. These stations feature a rapid in-and-out design, completing each milking cycle in just 7 to 10 minutes and enabling the farm to process over 600 cows per hour with remarkable efficiency.
Tirlán China Office Visit – September 12th
On the following day, the group was warmly welcomed by the Tirlán China team. The visit included a tour of the newly upgraded office space and the product R&D kitchen, which now features enhanced bread-baking equipment. Delegates were impressed by the bright, modern workspace and the creative product-themed decorations that reflected the team’s energy and innovation.
A highlight of the visit was a group photo taken in front of the mini moss wall featuring the Tirlán logo – symbolising the spirit of collaboration and shared purpose. The delegation expressed their admiration for the China team’s dedication and positive environment, noting how inspiring it was to witness their commitment firsthand.
Consulate General of Ireland & Bord Bia Visit – September 12th
Later that day, the group visited the Consulate General of Ireland and Bord Bia offices. During a sharing session, Raymond, ASPAC Business Development Director and Claire, Brand Manager, provided valuable insights into the current landscape and future prospects of the Chinese dairy market. They highlighted recent achievements and marketing activities of the China team and addressed questions from the Irish dairy farmers.
The session concluded with a delightful tasting of cakes and baked goods prepared by Chef Clyde and Chef Molly from the China team, adding a warm and personal touch to the experience.
Strengthening Bonds and Building Confidence
This visit not only deepened the delegation’s understanding of the Chinese dairy industry, but also reinforced their confidence in the market’s future potential. The interactions and shared experiences throughout the trip fostered stronger ties between the Irish and Chinese teams, paving the way for continued collaboration and mutual growth.
